Introduction to Excel 2003

If you work with numbers, you need to know Excel. In Introduction to Excel, learn the skills needed to create, edit, format, and print basic worksheets. Along the way, use the Fill Handle and the AutoSum tool. Insert columns and rows. Add comments to cells. Polish the worksheet by formatting numbers, applying attributes (bold, italics), changing fonts, adding borders, and adjusting column width.  Expand on your skills by learning to add, delete, and rearrange worksheets within a workbook. Add names and color to worksheet tabs. Learn to view more than one worksheet at a time and to move worksheets between workbooks. Harness the power of the Group command. Work with lists. Understand the importance of relative and absolute cell references. Link data between worksheets and workbooks and create 3-D references. Refine printing techniques by setting and clearing Print Areas and inserting and removing page breaks.

Intermediate Excel 2003

Follow up on the Introduction to Excel course by learning to utilize the most frequently used Excel functions–Sum, Average, Minimum, Maximum, Count, Count Numbers, and Count Blank. Learn to use the PMT function to calculate loan payments. Understand the importance of working with cell names. Learn how to sort data and use the Search and Find features. Discover the difference between protecting a worksheet and a workbook.  Do you find yourself creating the same worksheet over and over? If so, it’s time for a template. Templates increase accuracy by reducing repetitive tasks. Learn how to use templates to combine specialized formatting, standardize text such as headers and footers, and formulas in a special workbook upon which new workbooks are based. Styles work hand-in-hand with templates. Discover how to use styles to stream line your work.

Advanced Excel 2003

Day 1

As your proficiency with Excel increases, so does your productivity. Learn how to use Excel’s logical functions to help make decisions while mastering conditional formatting to draw attention to worksheet problems and increasing accuracy. Inserting hyperlinks into worksheets allows you to move efficiently from one worksheet to another. Learn how to handle calculations that involve time. Take Excel to its fullest potential by learning to work with Data Tables, Scenarios, and Goal Seek–techniques frequently referred to as Excel’s What-If analyses tools. Learn how to use the Subtotal function to analyze large worksheets and Data Validation to protect worksheets from inexperienced users.

Day 2

The more you know about Excel the more valuable you become. Expand your power over Excel by using AutoFilter to evaluate large worksheets and create reports. Learn to use Lookup functions to locate data and Custom Views to automate printing. Discover how the Auditing Toolbar can help you analyze formulas. Today’s office environment frequently finds more than one person working on the same worksheet at the same time. Learn how to utilize Excel’s collaboration features to manage these documents by learning how to view a workbooks’ history, to resolve conflicts, and to compare and merge workbooks. In addition, discover how to use macros to automate tasks. Use Visual Basic to write and edit these macros and then add them to toolbars or buttons.

Excel Charts & Pivot Tables

Large worksheets filled with numbers do not do a good job of allowing the user to see trends or spot inconsistencies. This is best done with a chart. Learn to use the Chart Wizard to create a wide range of charts from the basic Column, Pie, and Stock charts through combination (Bar and Line) charts to the more exotic waterfall and floating charts. Polish charts by learning how to refine the chart’s format, then learn how to create and use custom formats to make future charts easier and more consistent. Tame large worksheets by using Excel’s PivotTables feature. Dynamically and quickly combine, compare, and filter large amounts of data. Rearrange columns and rows. Group information and rapidly produce new reports. Generate, edit, and format PivotTable Charts.

Excel 2003 VBA Programming

Experienced Excel users will learn how to gain proficiency by creating procedures that run in response to specific events. They will create user forms to accept or display data and learn how to validate the data entry of user forms. They will gain experience debugging and handle errors in codes.
